There are suitable routes for every level – as ski tourers, make your mark through the fantastic snow. Zauchensee is an ideal starting point for ski tours in the Salzburg Sport World.
For deep snow freaks, the wintery mountain world of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee offers sporty descents with that special kick.
The entire touring ski equipment can be rented from the sports shops near the 4-star Hotel Zauchenseehof.
Classic cross-country skiing or skating

Find your cross-country style in one of the 3 best cross-country regions in Austria. The trails around Altenmarkt-Zauchensee are groomed for classic and skating. In total, the trail network, which can be used free of charge, covers 260 km for all levels. The 6.8 km long Altenmark Ortsloipe in Altenmarkt is considered challenging. For advanced skiers, the Zauchenseeloipe with a length of 10.6 km from Altenmarkt to Zauchensee is recommended as a day tour. Every Tuesday and Thursday, a Flying Coach is on the trail and gives free tips on technique and skiing style.

Snowshoe Hikes
Have you been wanting to stride through the snowy forest on big soles for a long time? Snowshoeing is a relaxing winter sport for the whole family. In Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, 42 km can be hiked with snowshoes. Once a week, a guided snowshoe hike with mulled wine is offered in Zauchensee - it's free. The snowshoe equipment can be rented at the reception, subject to availability.
Hiking through the Winter Landscape
If you want to avoid additional sports equipment altogether, simply put on your hiking boots and start walking from the 4-star Hotel Zauchenseehof. The well-prepared winter hiking trail network (from easy to moderately difficult) extends over 47 km. The trails are uniformly signposted and invite you to actively decelerate in the radiant winter sun and in front of a unique mountain backdrop. Hiking tips: Sonnalm viewpoint or on the Zauchenbachweg to Altenmarkt.

On foot or with the toboggan taxi to the top and then down into the valley on the sled – that’s part of the winter magic in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee. With the Salzburg Sport World Card there are discounts at the rental stations.
- Sonnalm toboggan run: 3 km through the forest, ascent only a few minutes from the 4-star Hotel Zauchenseehof. Also open in the evening for groups (registration), toboggan rental for a fee, headlamps are free.
- Hochnössler/Bifeis Hütte toboggan run with rustic refreshment stops in both huts, toboggan rental on site (between Zauchensee and Altenmarkt).
- 8-seater Königslehen toboggan run
The Königslehen toboggan run, on the other hand, fascinates with its unique 6 km length!
Ice skating & curling

Is ice skating also one of the most beautiful winter activities for you? Then romp around on the natural ice rink (900 sqm) under the open sky in the Altenmarkt municipal park in the Salzburg region. Special agreements are available for groups, ice skates can be rented on site. The opening hours depend on the weather and can be requested from the municipality.
With curling, power and feeling are required – instead of watching, just try it out. In Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, the curling facility of the ice shooters club invites you to do so. The opening hours and prices can be requested from the club. Every Wednesday (from 7 p.m.) free guest curling (from 10 people).

On the Horse-Drawn Sleigh through the Snow
The Zauchenseefiaker will pick you and your family up directly at the 4-star Hotel Zauchenseehof. The one-hour ride leads in a relaxed manner through the snowy winter landscape. The sleigh ride can be organized by the hotel, with the Salzburg Sport World Card there is a discount.
